One of the original punk shoes George Cox opened a shoe factory in 1906 converting an old swimming pool into a factory. In 1949 taking the popularity of a thick crepe sole popular in Paris they released the “brothel Creeper” named after its ability to be silent. It first appeared on Britain’s first mass youth culture “Teddy Boys” that were somewhat like greasers that wore classic suiting.

But then, in 1968 Malcolm McLaren (future manager of the Sex Pistols and partner of Vivienne Westwood) purchased his first pair at Mr. Freedom. 5 years later McLaren and Westwood ordered a full run for their 430 Kings Road shop SEX. Johnny Rotten came in trying to find some white suede George Cox creepers and was auditioned for the Sex Pistols. BONUS: Mclaren met with his fan Hiroshi Fujiwara and told Fujiwara to focus on Hip Hop fashion next, leading to basically everything we know now.
