One of more recent Margiela’s designs that followed immediately after Demna Gvasalia rocked the fashion world into baggy normcore style and “dad” sneakers through his work at Balenciaga and Vetements. He previously worked under Margiela so it was interesting to see this come out quickly afterwards to meet the demand for chunky sneakers. A lot of people don’t understand the appeal of the chunky sneaker after seeing them paired with skinny jeans glued onto legs. The main purpose is to keep the proportions consistent when wearing baggy pants and clothing, if you wear baggy clothes it’s a cool effect to have some large sneakers. But even then, it is a practical bonus, because it keeps baggy pants from dragging the floor due to its massive width. These pairs were supposed to be glued together sneaker parts like a Frankenshoe.
