In 1993 Kobayashi Setsumasa created General Research, but it has been renamed several times to fit the activity intended of the clothing, most recently Mountain Research to reflect his love for the outdoors. The Mountain Research collections are designed when the designers retreat from Tokyo to the mountains for each season’s designs. They then make the designs based in the brands utilitarian vibe as well as the things they observed whilst in nature.
