A very graphic (check site for actual picture) design featuring ironically an “Eiffel Tower” position on the front, funny as Gaultier is French as well as the brand. The long sleeve also features the iconic boat neck design collar with two red stripes on the sleeves. The illustration is a reference to the Kama Sutra.
The Kama Sutra was an ancient Hindu Sanskrit text on romantic and emotional fulfillment as well as other stuff I’m not sure if I’ll get flagged for saying (playing it safe). But it is usually thought of for its positions mentioned in the book. It is part of the larger work of Kama Shrastra dealing with desire. The book more so details a deeper dive into the details of human relationships and is a rare example of an ancient Indian book ignoring caste and hierarchy, mostly focusing on the effects of the individuals success/wealth in the relationship and their behavior. The book is also one of the most pirated English texts ever. The illustrations were added later by translators to get over language barriers and guide users more effectively, one of the modern illustrators was Georges Pichard in the 90’s in France which makes me think that this might be Gaultier referencing his work as the styling is a bit similar.
