The Air Jordan 1 was made in 1985 as a promotional collaboration shoe for Michael Jordan which was becoming one of Nike’s best deals endorsing a player. The shoe sky rocketed in legend after the NBA began fining Jordan for wearing colorful shoes which stood out too much at the time. Nike offered to pay the fines so that Jordan could keep wearing the Nikes. A common misconception is that Jordan was wearing his Jordans, when in fact he was wearing a pair of custom Air Ships. The misconception deepens with the clip of people talking about his Bred 1’s, at a basketball game. That game was the 1985 Dunk contest some time after the fining began and that event had no uniform code so he was free to wear those. Despite all that, those combination of events turned the worlds eyes onto the Bred and Chicago team Jordan 1’s and led to what we know today.
